Trouble getting Satisfaction Letter to Judgement
Date: Thu, 03/31/2011 - 16:36
I had a debt with National City that was sent to collections in 2007. By 2008 a default judgement had been issued. I paid off this judgement to National Credit Acceptance (NCA) in August of 2008 who was the holder at the time. I thought this was all handled until I pulled my credit report in early 2011 and found the judgement still on my credit report. Then, after having done a search, I found the judgement is still listed active. Apparanty, NCA had went bankrupt shortly after. The debt with a zero balance was sold to SACAR Financial. I contacted them for a letter of Satisfaction and was given the long sob story about how a zero debt never should have been transfered to them.
They sent me a letter on their letterhead that the debt was paid. However, they told me that I would be charged a heavy fee for them to draft and send in a letter of satisfaction. I'm not sure who dropped the ball, but I know it wasn't me. What should I do?

You should have asked for a signed letter or some document after paying the judgment. Some collection agencies charge fees for drafting a satisfaction letter. Check whether you can arrange for it online. You can take out the print out of the letter from your computer without paying a substantial amount.
