Help What can i do?

I have an account being held by NES collection agency. About 3 months ago i went to a court date to make payment arrangements with them. I have a hearing disability, and was unable to hear the representative on the phone, so they told me that they would send me something in the mail. They waited 3 months to send it!!! Now they are basically telling me that i either pay $5191.97 now or i am going to get wage garnishment. I have called them trying to make biweekly payment arrangements with them, and they will not work with me at all. I thought that by law if i am willing to make payments they have to accept that. What can i do? By the way my bill is for a defaulted student loan. Please someone help me!!!

First of all, how much was the original amount owed on your student loan? Second of all, a garnishment in this case is only attainable if they get a judgement against you in court. They simply can not garnish at will. Be sure to answer all correspondence from them. Use certified mail and make copies of everything. Do not speak with them on the telephone from now on. All in writing.
