I HAVE a question about rental leases. BACK IN 2008 I signed a lease but needed a guarantor per the application. I DID NOT make enough or have sufficient credit at that time .HERE IS THE THING A COLLECTION AGENCY IS REPORTING I OWE 4600 to this place on my equifax and experian reports. I don't understand how I can owe if I never got a guarantor . I've never been sued or anything for this. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW I CAN'T RENT ANYWHERE CAUSE THIS IS ON MY REPORT. SHOULD I CONTACT THE COLLECTION AGENCY? Send validation letter?

A guarantor is basically a cosignor for for you. Did you actually get the rental without the guarantor??? Not fully understanding what you are saying...

I never moved in , my parents would not cosign. I had just got out of college this was back in 2008. I never moved in nor had any utilities in my name there nothing. It was like a college roomate type apartment I live in a college town and they have several of thars types where you are individually responsible for only your portion of the rent. I did not even bring the co signer info back cause my parents said no. What I am wondering is are they holding me responsible for lease that I signed and to be honest I don't even remember signing one . I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND IF I NEEDED A COSIGNER AND NEVER MOVED IN WHY ARE THEY TRYING TO COLLECT ON a lease

I guess what is so crazy to me is that if I held a lease their why did they not try to sue me evict me if I wasn't paying rent techinically .. So strange to me, I don't have any public records on my credit report no judgements.

I would definately be disputing this...go back thru the apartment complex. Have you talked to them yet?? They set a condition of renting...you could not meet it so any possible contract you signed would be null and void.
