Hi joneshirus
Have you called the furniture company and know the latest status about your account? I wonder if they have sent your file to a collection agency who might be later attempting their collection techniques.
Call the company and remind them about the proposals sent by you. You need to get this payment arrangement directly with them and avoid dealing with any CA in the future.

A settlement offer is something a creditor or a collection agency is not required to give you.
As for sending a letter saying you consider the matter closed if they don't reposnd to you by a certain date I can tell you now that that doesn't mean lickety squat to a collection agency or a creditor.
As far as the creditor or the collection agency are concearned you are responsible for every ounce of the debt because you signed the contract agreement for it. They don't really care about your financial situation to be quit honest. They care about their money.

Ya know, normally I would bite my tounge on this but I have been biting it so much lately, I have almost bitten it off so I'm gonna go ahead and say this. Why would you open an account at a furniture store, and then charge merchandise to it, knowing your were out of work and wouldn't be able to pay it back?
Did you know your were going to be on disability when you did it? If so,that only slightly changes it, but its common knowledge that disability still pays you significantly less than you would normally make.

I don't think there's much to add to this, my friend! You're still responsible for the debt. Call them and try to make some arrangements before they sue.

I have to agree! They are not obligated to respond to you or accept any settlement offer. Has the account been sent to collections?? That would be, most likely, the only way you will get a 'settlement' offer is from the collection agency acting on the furniture companies behalf. and it will be them doing the offering, not you. Otherwise, if you're trying to stop it from going into collections, then you're forced to deal with furniture company now, on their terms. They're not going to cut you a break.
