A letter came in the mail today from Northland Group..
It says Acct. owner: LVNV Funding & Previous Creditor: THD Consumer ..

They are wanting to settle a past due balance of 1,562.55 for $859.38 (of course, that "is not including the intrest that varies daily")... I do not know who these people are or who I am supposed to owe..

I do not have this kind of $ at this second.. I have no problem paying off a debt that is owed, assuming I have the $.. Is there any way to settle with the original creditor, assuming I can figure out who they are?

Can these people put a freeze on my bank account?

I am new to this type of problem, I do not know what to do.

Hi-momof5-I am a mom of 4. First-do you recgonize this debt? Does the letter state on it, usually near the bottom-this is an attempt to collect an debt, yada yada yada, if so-then immediately send by CMRRR a DV letter-search this site for a template, this letter will also tell what they HAVE to send you in order to validate the debt, this is by federal law-dont let them tell you otherwise, also include a partial cease and desist-limiting all contact by usps-mail only! Saves you the hassles of the constant phone calls. MAKE sure they have the legal right to collect the debt and legally own it. What state are you in, check this site also for the states SOL laws, if this is old it maybe out of statute-which means they cant sue you for the debt. Do not agree with any payment plan without validating first-very important they have the rights to collect-so later you dont get screwed again. And if its a legal dueable debt then DO NOT under any circumstances give any collector any bank account info-once they have it you will be emptied out. Always do payments by cashiers check, money orders or a prepaid debit card only!! DO NOT let them intimidate you into giving up banking info-say no!
Send them a DV letter immediately! I say this because LVNV is a bottom feeding collector that love to break the law without caring. I have dealt with them so many times it isnt funny and NOT 1 account can they properly validate, so they do not get any money from me. They will then pass it off to one of their little subsidaries and it will start over again. But, almost can guarantee you they CAN NOT validate. Do these things and we can go from there after that. Post back if you have anymore questions and I will do my best to help.
