I kept getting notices from North Shore Agency concerning one of those "free magazine " offers that came after a gift subscription for my son. He was age 15 at the time. We did not ask for the dollar store quality book and 40 year old video on weapons of World War ll!!

I was unsuccessful in getting anywhere with the original company, even when I notified them they were contacting a 15 year old and we did not ask for this product.

It was sent to North Shore Agency for collection, now totalling nearly $60.00.

I did a google search on North Shore Agency and learned they are used a lot for magazine accounts and similar. I also found a link that they are the subject of an investigation into unfair and illegal debt collection practices.

Here is an email link to the legal firm that is doing the investigating: fmartelli@jameshoyer.com.

If anyone has had any contact with North Shore Agency, you may be interested in contacting this company. Please investigate the law firm to your own satisfaction first. Just google North Shore Agency and you will find a link to the legal firm website.

There may be a class action suit as the end result of this investigation. Just trying to keep CA's honest and fair.

You need to send a debt validation letter to NorthShore on behalf of your son and inform them that the contractual agreement is illegal due to your sons age. If they do not provide a contract with anyones name other than his you have won. Make sure you include a cease communication clause in there also. If they continue to try to collect sue them under the FDCPA. Class acton suits are a waste for anyone except the attorneys

Absolutely!!!! I have sent debt validation letter, plus cease and desist via certified mail. I was just wondering if anyone else was being harrassed by these folks. The law firm may be able to use their info for class action. As far as getting any money out of it, it won't happen. By the time lawyers add all billable hours and fees, most class actions result in less than 50.00 per litigant. If it is more, the companies just bankrupt to save assets. It may set precedent, which is even more important. Oh, by the way, North Shore is not legal to collect in Va. according to the Va. information. Thanks to everyone for this forum. It is the most wonderful thing to educate yourself with public info avalable.!!!!
