closed is how it should be listed, as the original debt is closed, so collection listings should also be closed. It is odd that the original creditor is not listed on your credit report so what you should do first is send a debt validation letter to the one attempting to collect the debt and demand they provide proof they are collecting a legitimate account.
You never mentioned: did you have a card at all? If so when did you stop making the payments?

I am pretty sure at one point we did have an account with Citibank. There is a lot of bad credit under the bridge mixed in with a bunch of payday loans when it was at its worse. What concerns me most is we have been finally working our way out and this came out of left field but only on my credit report not my husbands. Today we removed my name from our joint account at the credit union and now I only have my own bank account. I have read horror stories of bank levies without summons. I did a court check in mn today and there are no judgements in my name.
So, do I initiate contact or just wait? Our credit is still pretty bad so you can't get blood from a turnip..even so I am losing sleep.
