I lost my job this winter and subsequently was unable to pay my AT&T bill. They sent it over to a collection company called National Recovery Systems. In February I agreed to pay it all in one sum, thinking I would find a job. I have had no such luck. The manager threatened further action today if I did not agree to a $300 payment on March 31st. I do not have the funds or anybody I can borrow from. What do I do!?

You're in a tough situation. You can negotiate with the manager and check out if he will be ready to lower your payments further. If he lowers the payment further, then you may contact your friends or relatives and check if they can help you in paying it off. Though you've mentioned that there's nobody you can borrow from, I will suggest you to speak to your friends and you never know someone might agree to help you.

Tough situation. As you have earlier agreed to pay the amount, so the collection agency is pressing you for the payment. You can need to pay the bill since you owe it. You can request them to give you some more time to come with the amount required to repay the bill. Explain that you have not yet found a job. If you receive any unemployment benefit, then you can pay the bill by using that money.
