Hi there. I recently paid off an older phone bill to TMobile directly after they decided to get Superior Assert Management involved.

So i paid the balance thinking the CA would have to go away. It appears I was mistaken as they simply updated the status.

What is my next step?

Generally, once a creditor retains a CA, they are obligated to the CA to pay them a contingent fee on any monies collected from that point forward - whether you pay the CA or the OC directly. After all, T-mobile sending the account to Superior got you to pay, didn't it? Hence, Superior accomplished T-Mobile's goal. And thus, T-Mobile has to pay Superior for getting you to pay.

T-Mobile had to report the direct payment to Superior, and Superior will send T-Mobil an invoice for probably 1/3 of the amount you paid, depending on their contingent fee arrangement.

Bottom line is that the account was sent to collection prior to you making payment. So it is legal for Superior to report a paid collection status.

You can dispute it in hopes that they won't take the time to verify since they're already paid. But if they do take the time to verify, then I'm afraid it will stay on your credit report.
