I'm just looking for some advice/opinions not a lecture please!
I moved to the US about a year ago (yes legally :) ) I had been paying off a personal loan which I had in another country. Because it's taken a year now waiting for immigration to let me work I can no longer keep paying the loan back. It seems my bank has now passed on the loan to a debt collection agency here in the US. Because I have no job, no ssn# no assets, credit or phone in my name here what are their chances of finding me and can they take me to court for a debt written in another country?
I really intened to keep paying, I didn't know it was going to take so long to be able to start working.
I'd be grateful for any help at this point, thank you in advance!
By signing up a debt counseling session, your provided details (Name, Email ID and Phone No.) will be forwarded to the company advertising on the DebtCC. However, you have no obligation to use their services.
Some creditors and collection agencies refuse to lower the payoff amount, interest rate, and fees owed by the consumer.
Creditors/collection agencies can make collection calls and file lawsuits against the consumers represented by the debt relief companies.
Debt relief services may have a negative impact on the consumer's creditworthiness and his overall debt amount may increase due to the accumulation of extra fees.
The amount which the consumer saves with the use of debt relief services can be regarded as taxable income.
