I recently settled with a CA lawsuit, well before the summons to appear in court date, for an amount less than the amount in the complaint. I have a letter from the CA lawyers stating that account has been settled in full.

They promissed to have the case dismissed with the court as soon as I signed and returned this "Stipulation For Judgement upon Default" form (which I did) and that I would not need to show up to answer for the complaint.

Well, they did no such thing. The court records show that there is a default judgement for the plaintiff for the full amount of the claim.

What happend? What did I do wrong?

Regular mail. I was a noob 4 mos ago when it comes to CA's> I am learning so much here. Late bloomer I suppose. I was reading the stipulation for Judgement upon default form they had me sign, and it looks as though they tricked me completely! Even though I have a letter stating that the account is settled for the full amount, it doesn't matter.

Is this kind of devious and unethical behavors on behalf of creditors and lenders legal?
