In 2005, Palisades Collection in NJ sent me a bill for an AT&T Wireless account in NY from 2000 that wasn't mine. My first and last names were misspelled on the account. Palisades Collection threatened, I wouldn't pay, and I got AT&T Fraud Dept. to tell them it was not my bill. I wouldn't pay it then, and I won't pay it now. My mistake was giving them info, such as home phone number. They use it to hound you when you expect that they will do the right thing. It resurfaces now from Palisades Collection in PA. These people are persistent cons. I also blame AT&T for initially giving out phones and not checking customer identity closely enough.

I have no idea because I have never been denied credit, and I cannot get the report unless I pay, which I won't do. Palisades never admitted anything, but they stopped hassling me after a Fraud Supervisor from AT&T said she'd take care of it. I asked her for an acknowledgment in writing. She said she could not right away. I asked if she'd do it within two weeks, and she said YES, but she never did, and now I am told she doesn't work there anymore.
Now AT&T Fraud Dept. thinks it may be a scam, but they cannot get through, and neither can I. The Fraud Dept. doesn't have "transparency" to view these old records and is waiting for their call (within AT&T) to be returned. I originally went around with AT&T, and many other companies, (even a land line through Verizon when my home phone was a land line through Verizon) when the first identity theft started in 2000. It is so wasteful to rob people of their productive time, especially in such hard economic times. Still nine years later I am literally being robbed again. The blame is also with the credit agencies for trying to extort people for their own credit info - Worst of all was after their 6 months Fraud Alert was up in 2000, the same crooks from a nursing home in the Bronx started in all over again. They changed my address from California to nursing home in NY and rented two computers from Dell which of course, they actually stole. They continued the same scams - buying through catalogs on credit cards in my name, delivered to the nursing home. COME ON!!! THE SAME CROOKS for ROUND TWO!! Check up on your elderly relatives, it may be people like these caring for them.

i have recently dealt with identity theft and fraud. though my last name was spelled wrong my social security number was correct and it was idenity theft (make sure this did not happen to you!) in cases of fraud you can get a free credit report, i would report it as fraud. in fact to be honest i would get a police report on this as it and dispute it with the credit reporting agencies.

Identity theft IS fraud. I spent many hours waiting at the police station to file a report, as my problem was low priority. I even updated the report as I learned of more theft in my name. NONE of it did any good. The crooks are in NY, the police in CA don't do anything.

I filed complaints with the FTC and the post office for mail fraud, (federal agencies), that didn't do any good either. It all started all over again, as soon as the "fraud alert" was lifted (then, at 6 months).

Recently I checked one credit report through a free service of AAA and there's nothing on it - but THANK YOU (smo65d11) for the address of annualcreditrep - I will check all three.

The latest is they are hassling my mother who lives an hour north. She said she doesn't know me. They have called her 3 times now. And shock of all shocks, I got a nice letter from AT&T saying the bill is not mine. I have been too busy to pursue it (that's what they hope, and figure people will pay to get them off their backs). It must be past the statute of limitations - even if it WAS my bill, which it isn't.

Palisades Collection never appeared on any credit reports to my knowledge, they just attempt to extort people with the fear of a black mark on one's credit rating. I will call the CA state Attorney General's Office and see if there is a way to threaten them into desisting against people in general. There may be other complaints. Not everyone "fights like a girl" and it is upsetting to think Palisades Collection preys upon the weak.
