Being sued by Palisades, LLC?!

I got a letter today from my county court saying that i am being sued by Palisades, LLC. It said that they now own my old phone number from Verizon and there is a balance of $570 that i must pay. There is a copy of the bill (no details, just amount owed) with my name and address. I did live there at one time, but the date on the bill, i wasn't living there at the time. I KNOW for a fact that when i moved out, i payed the bill. There is nothing on my credit report showing this unpaid debt. This bill is from 2003. I would imagine that 5 years later, i would have something on my credit report. It states in the letter that they have demanded payment and received none. This is the FIRST time i have ever heard anything about this issue. I don't know what to do. I have heard that this company is known for "scamming" people. Any advice? Thank you.

when you're served you need to get the status of the case checked from the clerk at the court. Next, I guess, you need to send a proper validation letter to Palisades to validate the debt.
