Palisades Collections LLC is suing me?

Instead of a copy of the bill, what I received approximately 2 weeks later, was papers from superior Court informing me that i am being sued. The only copy of a bill was a page from an old phone bill from 2001 with an amount due. I called the attorneys listed and was basically called a liar. Are these people permitted to simply take something to the courts like this, causing a person to take time from work to prove what they already know...that the debt doesn't exist in the first place? Is there any way i can possibly get these people to get off my back without having to go to court?

Call the court system and verify that you are actually being taken to court....A lot of times they assume that a letter like this will intimidate people into paying. Also, send them a debt validation letter...They have to validate the debt or it will not look favorable on them in court

And sue the law firm for violating the federal laws under charges of ???? 806. Harassment or abuse [15 USC 1692d]. Go through the link to the FDCPA and consult an attorney. Record their phone calls after checking with your state laws. According to your state, you will come to know if the recording can be done secretly or you have to take their permission. Take notes on the number of calls, date and time and the name of the caller. This will help in your filing a legal case.

HeretoHelp is right. In most states the SOL will have ran, if the debt is from that time period. Did all of this happen within a 30 day period? Sounds awfully soon. If they haven't given you time to dispute and ask for validation, they've broken the law (by filing suit) as well, (30 days from when you recieved their first letter).

Hey have you heard anything back from Palisades? I am really having a hard time. My husband had an old AT&T bill from like 04 and this collection agency is garnishing his wages now. We didn't receive anything from them except once and i asked for proof of the debt and they never sent it. When i got the garnishment papers in the mail in July I called and asked what was going on. They said there was nothing that i could do, so i called AT&T to find out why we never heard about this until now and from this company. AT&T told me to pay AT&T and i wouldn't have to deal with anyone else. Not even a full week later Palisades took $260 from our bank account, then $235 a week later from his paycheck, another $260 from his pay check and are refusing to stop, even after sending proof that the debt was paid. They are saying the account numbers don't match. I have already been back and forth with the attorneys office that is garnishing and AT&T. there is only one account. I need help on getting this stopped. I don't have a lot of money and the little i have is being taken. Why is it when the responsible people need help they cant get it and the dead beats who really don't pay their bills have no problems at all?
