Palisades Collection Summons

I live in NY and just received a summons for civil court from lawyers for Palisades Collection agency regarding an old AT&T account. Not really sure what my next step should be. I did see another post with a similar problem but was unable to read it all as there is side bar on this page and I can't figure out how to move it to read everything. I don't remember well if I do owe them or if it was paid off but the figures they are alleging with the interest would be a hardship on me at this point in time. Does anyone know a good way to settle or should I take my chances in court and hope they can't prove it?

Definitely show up in court. If you don't, the repercussions could be very very ugly. While you're waiting for the court date, attempt to validate the debt. You may not have enough time to get a response, but it's worth a shot. Also, pull all three of your credit reports to see if this is listed.

Check to see whether the debt is one on which the statute of limitations has run. If it has, in your answer to the complaint request that the case be dimissed because the SOL has run, and thus, they can show no actionable cause.

Please go to the following site and see exactly how Palisades operates. www.Ripoffreport.com. When you search Palisades you will see a history for them and it's not pretty. Also, you can google Pressler & Pressler they fit into the Palisades story.

From personel experience with them they do not play by the rules!
