Too little too late. I just found your website today and i wish i'd found it earlier. i contacted a debt collector who'd sent me a letter to collect on a past debt. i unfortunately, gave them my banking information to set up a payment plan, after the woman told me that that day was the last day i could do anything without this going on my credit report. foolishly, i gave them the information, but now i'm wondering why i'm receiving letters from other debt collectors trying to collect on pieces of this same debt. not only that, the woman assured me that this debt would cover everything associated with this debt. i asked for validation of the debt on december 6th, today is the 19th and i have not received anything from them. what should i do? should i close my bank account and open another?

Welcome to the Community Mishelle :D Did you ask for validation from the same company you gave your banking info to? If so, don't expect validaton, ans I think you acknowledged the debt when you set up payments. If I am wrong, someone will come along to tell you the particuliars.

I wouldn't let anyone have access to my banking info, especially if you don't know if they are authorized to collect the debt. You need to know which one of the CA have the debt, if it's valid, etc., before you set things up.

Since others are trying to collect on the debt, send them debt validation requests. I,personally, would close my account, but talk with your bank about this first and make sure it can't be forced back open. There is a "sticky" about pay day loans and closing your bank account, in the Pay Day loan forum, that may help you.

One time, before I canme to this forum, I made arrangements to pay on a company because of the threats. I came here and decided to stop them from my account, and wrote a letter that because of the threats and intimidation, I was stopping payments, etc., until they showed me they had the debt-they just passed it to another agency.

Good Luck to you, let us know if you have questions..Karen

You might also check your credit reports and see what is on there
