this firm won a law suit against me and i was ordered to make monthly payments. At the time this happened I had no idea how serious it was nor did i understand what rights i had. Anyways a year later after making $100 a month payments to them i purchased a house. At the closing i was informed that sessoms & rogers put a lien on my house. For one i dont understand how they could have done that, since i was already making payments and for one from my understanding you are allowed to own 1 property and 1 vehicle. anyways originaly i only owed $3000 to citi bank credit card. when they won the the case it ended up being $8000 according to sessoms and rogers. i have been paying them now for about 5yrs at $100 a month (total of $6000) i have paid double of what i actually owed them. they started sending me a statement each month about a year ago. when i got it i noticed it still said i owend $8000 so i called them. they state all the fees were not calculated that i really owed $9000. i am so confused what can i do??? can i stop making payments?? or will this cause me more problems?? please help i am really trying to do the right thing but this is ridulculous. help

If you owe money to anyone they can get a lien against your property. This will entitle them to collect if you sell. You need to retain an attorney to deal with this situation regarding the incorrect amount. Make sure it is a lawyer who specializes in both real estate law and consumer law. It is better to pay your own attorney than to throw money out the window that you do not owe.

I am actually surprised you were able to purchase a home with this judgment on your credit. Mortgage companies usually expect these to be paid off prior to closing because once the house it closed, it becomes an attachable asset for the creditor.

Also keep in mind that judgments do accrue interest. Plus you would also have been charged court and legal costs.
