This happened to me too a couple of years ago. I was at work and received a phonecall on my direct line. A woman asked for me and then stated she was from CRS (???) to recover a debt from a payday loan company from 2003. I told her I have never had a payday loan and stated she must have the wrong number. She persisted and became very rude before I told her I was not the person she was looking for and not to call me again. I hung up and she called right back (I have caller ID on my office phone) and asked to speak with my supervisor. I said "I don't know who you think you are dealing with, but I do not have a supervisor. I am a senior level administrator for a small college and have never taken a payday loan. Do not call this number again." About two minutes later, our secretary came to my door and said a woman called asking to speak with "the person in charge of me." HAHAHA. One of my senior colleagues took the call, put it on speaker and advised the woman that due to the nature of our business and security of our students, all calls are recorded. She goes on to ask him if he would be able to identify me for the sheriff because she is sending him over to arrest me for "fraud." He said sure he would...have you spoken to the sheriff already? She said she just got off the phone with the sheriff and that he said he would wait for her call to go ahead and arrest me. By this time, I am laughing my butt off...why? My associate goes on to say that first of all, our sheriff is a woman, not a man. How does he know this? The sheriff is his sister-in-law. He then said he was going to call the sheriff and find out what is what because if I was truly going to be arrested, he drive me to the sheriff barracks to turn myself in because "we don't allow scenes like that to happen in our workplace." The woman hung up. He called the sheriff...nothing...big surprise. So we let it go. A few hours later, the company called again. This time, it was the woman's supervisor. She stated she was very angry at how her employee was treated and I needed to acknowledge this debt and pay it or they would proceed with legal action. Again, I stated I didn't ever have this loan and told her not to call the number again. I looked up what to do it that situation and contacted the FTC and Attorney General's Office in my state and theirs. I received a notice from them copied to the AG stating they considered the debt paid in full. WHAT!? There was never a debt.

I ended up filing a lawsuit against them. I claimed fraud and harrassment. Everything was going smoothly and a court date was set in my county court. The day of the hearing, no one showed for them. The judge ruled in my favor. A month later, I received a packet from the court essentially stating the company had cleared up the discrepancy and I had no known record on file with them. I did not request monetary damages because I only wanted my name cleared.

These people are really vicious, but this is proof they are ALL talk NO action.

Ladybugs thanks for the great post. It makes you wonder how they keep getting by with this nonsense. KYSIDE38
