Could you please give me any information on this phone number? Is this a legit company? Have been calling family members that I have never used as a reference and I have no clue what they want. Any information would be helpful..

If they are a debt collector, they are entitled under FDCPA 604 to call third parties, but only to attempt to obtain locator information in order to reach you. Any such calls cannot disclose that you owe, or are alleged to owe, a debt, and are usually limited to only one call to a given third party.

The day they call you and disclose that they are calling regarding a debt, they must, under FDCPA 809(a), send you a collection (dunning) notice within 5 days thereafter, identifying themselves, the original creditor, the amount of the alleged debt, and your rights to request their validation of the debt.

It looks like they are fishing around to locate you. If they call you, you can simply request that any communication with you be sent in writing, and refuse to discuss anything on the merits with them. That call constitutes an "initial communication" with you, and triggers their requirement to send you a formal collection notice.
