I don't think that you should worry about the call unless you have committed some check fraud. Sometimes, the Collection Agency gives you threatening calls so that you pay off the debt out of fear. When the CAs know that they cannot recover the debt legally, they adopt such tactics.

Just called the number and it is disconnected. dont worry about it unless you have done something wrong.

I did find out that the number is attached to PMR Law group which is a CA and looking to collect money for a payday loan company from Nov. 2007, which I don't remember. They have another phone number which is 614-586-4174. They left detailed messages on a co-worker's and a friends voice mail. When I spoke with someone there, he kept referring to his manager, Mr. Shapiro, alluding that he was an attorney and tried to bully me into paying an outrageous amount of money to avoid legal consequences. I hung up on him when he wouldn't provide written documentation. So far I haven't received anymore calls. But who knows...

This means that they were in the process of recovering the debt which you do not owe, and for this reason they are not willing to provide you with any written documentation. They are just threatening you, so that you pay off the money out of fear. There is no need to worry about the call till they send you anything in writing.
