Would this be debt validation?

Would you consider this as debt validation from Portfolio Recovery? I asked for it and they sent me back a letter on their letterhead with the following information:

Account was sold, assigned, and transfered from HSBC to Portfolio on 12/23/2008. The seller provided an electronic file of its business records concerning this account.

Original creditor's name: HSBC
Original creditor's address: Chicago IL
Account holders name provided by seller: My name
Date account opened provided by seller:8/1/2007
Account holders last 4 digits of ssn: ****
Current outstanding balance: 650.43

if this on portfolio's letterhead.then no it isn't validation.

i guess it depends on if it is good enough for you, i would want more though.. like proof that they actually own it but that's me. i am sure someone more experienced will be around. only one of my debts was ever validated and they gave me every statement i ever had with capital one. that was good enough for me because it showed they had my whole file.

This looks like generic information they probably got off my credit report. I am going to send them another letter stating they have not properly validated the debt in my opinion. From what I have read on this site they probably hoping that I will just take that and pay the debt.

sorry i must have posted the same time as paul! but it's true, i would not consider that validated. i would repeat the whole thing, sending a new letter along with a copy of the old ones and make sure you get the green card back. seems like they are trying to play games with you!

That is the bare minimum that they have to provide per sec 809 of the FDCPA but it's not on the OC's letterhead, I would follow up DV them and reference the Wollman Opinion. They'll likely respond with the Chaudrey case.
