Just received some sort of document claiming I owe debt from a credit card.

Going to send them debt validation request letter...good idea??

Anyone dealt with these people before?

Thank you!!

Send the letter, CMRR, they more than likely send you some crap and when you resend a DV letter (with the first attached with a copy of the signed receipt) they will go away.

Everytime they contact you, if by phone explain that you sent the DV letter and are waiting for the legally mandated response and hang up. If by mail then just resend the DV with each previous letter and copy of the signed receipt.

If they can't validate (which they more than likely can't) they will sell it off. Do not have any other conversation with them until they send the proper docs.

Based on my own experience with these idiots, all you will get in the way of validation is a letter, on Portfolio's letterhead, saying, in essence, "yes, we say you do owe the money." They will probably send you nothing from the original creditor, because they probably don't have it. When you send a letter back telling them a "statement" on Portfolio letterhead is not proper validation, you will probably not get a response back. They will, however, continue collection activity and not report it on your credit report as disputed.

That's when you can take all your documentation and sue them for FDCPA and FCRA violations.

I am.
