hello all. i have been trying to fix my credit lately and i am getting very confused with the process. due to an old boyfriend opening cards in my name i am getting collection notices and "offers" from debt companies. i have no recourse with the ex, as he was killed in a car accident years ago. as i said, i am desperate to clean up my credit- but i am at a loss. i have read several postings about statute of limitations and was curious how this affects my debts. none of the debts have been paid on, in over 5 years, some never. if the recovery companies are still sending letters does that wipe out the statute since they are still in communication? also, can anyone recommend a local agency i can speak with that could offer me guidance?
thank you all for your time. and i live in northern virginia

It doesn't matter when these accounts were created if you did not create them. This is called Identity Theft and you need to get the information on these fraudulent accounts and file a police reports as well as follow the credit reporting agencies for reporting identity theft.
Even if the person who did it is down deceased, you can never be held liable for things done in your name without your consent.
