I received a call from my mother back in October that someone from PRG had called her about a debt of mine. When I called them they claimed to be collecting for a loan I had previously. I set up payments with them and paid a total of 675.00. The debt was around 1500.00. I did not ask for them to send me anything in writing which I now know I should have. I saw a post on here about them and cancelled the card that the payments to them were being charged too. I still have never received anything from them in writing and today received a message that it is now in pre-litigation status and unless I contact them by close of business today that it would proceed. I'm not sure what I should do now since I have no income and I am not able to pay anything else to them currently.

PRG is located in Buffalo NY...the bowels of shady collection agencies. They CANNOT sue you...they are not attorneys. They would have to hire an attorney located in YOUR state. Send them a cease and desist.

Its the oldest trick in the debt collectors book, subtly threatening debtors with 'pre-litigation' and the 'you have been served' line. Don't fall for it. Its just PRG trying to throttle you into paying up.

I took it upon myself to look up everything that I can to see what I can do to make sure these people stop calling and harrassing me. I can across a website of what debt collectors can and cannot do. A lot of the things that they are doing is a violations of FDCPA. I then found out that I can make a complaint about them to the Federal trade Comission. DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY AT ALL EVEN IF THEY TELL YOU THAT YOU WILL GET ARRESTED (this is a violation also), THEY WILL SQUEEZE YOU OUT FOR ALL YOUR MONEY AND IN THE END, YOU WILL BE THE ONE THAT STILL NEEDS TO PAY. Find out your rights and their rights as debts collectors. Trust me, you can do something about it...... done hesitate, just look it up and do it.
