Hello -

I sent a DV w/ receipt within 30 days of initial contact from a local law firm acting as a CA regarding a debt of approx. $4,000. I never received a response though was served a summons to appear about 45-60 days afterwards. Since the firm never responded to my DV and I have proof of such what should be my next steps?

Our civil court matters regarding debt collection are rather informal as the presiding judge does a roll call then all present proceed to another room with the firm's lawyer to discuss each case privately. I know this as I have previously settled a debt with another CA and appeared in court regardless to ensure they dismissed by case. That CA provided a full DV.

Thank you

Since they didn’t give any reply of debt validation letter, so show this copy as a proof to the court. I hope the court will take right decision.

Good luck mate!!

Collectors are not legally bound to reply to a DV request, only that they cannot continue with collection activities till they do so although they can still sue you which seems to be the case here.
Do you have a valid defense? Something along the lines that the debt is not yours, the debt is time barred, etc? If you do want validation, you can just appear in court and ask for it during discovery.
