Help please

I am currently overseas for one year. Today I found out that a place called Credit Interchange has called both my parents and my wife. They told my parents that to prevent a legal case I needed to respond by June 11. I think I know what it is about but i am not 100% sure. If I have ever had mail from these people I do not know as I either have not read it or discarded it as junk mail. Also I have never personally spoken to them on the phone. Should I call back? How should I proceed? What Can I do? Any help is appreciated.


Thanks for the welcome. What action should I take if they are saying legal action or whatever will be taken if not dealt with by june 11th? This debt validation will surely take longer than that? Thanks for the advice

I called the company and it is what I thought it was. I have a credit card that is past due and the company told me that I would need to pay $7000 and there is no way to make a payment plan or anything like that and if i don't pay it then it will end up in the courts. Is this true? Is there anything I can do?

Hi & welcome to the forum!! have you tried to contact the credit card company to see if they will work out some arrangements with you? If they have not sold the debt, and given the circumstances, they may be helpful. I personally have not had experience with court, but it would seem to short of a time for them to file so quick, they are most likely trying to scare you into paying right away. This is the best place for help, and someone will shortly be around with more advice. Good luck!

I have called the cc company and they said there is nothing they could do. the CA said something along the lines of if i don't pay by monday i am going to get sued. can this happen? Should I request over the phone that a debt verification or something like that be sent to me? and then to request all other communications be in writing? How should I proceed? I wish to pay the debt but I cannot make one large payment it is impossible. And with me being out of the country there is no way to represent myself in court if it were to come to that. Also I do not have access to an incoming phone line here only outgoing so all the calls are going to my parents and my wife. How can I get this to stop? What can I do? I have read through the forums but cannot find anything along this particular situation where I am out of the country and the timeframe stated is so short. Any thoughts or assistance is greatly appreciated.

You said you are overseas for one year. Are you active military? If so, legally they cannot proceed against you in a civil case until you return.

If the company name is Creditors Interchange, I have knowledge that they make threats to sue when they do not have authority to file suit or threats that a lawsuit is already filed when one is not. These threats are a violation of the federal and some state laws.

You could try sending them a letter directing them not to call you at whatever number they are calling and give them an address where they can contact you in writing only. If you are active military, you should also state this in your letter. I would suggest sending this letter first to a parent our spouse in the states and have them send it certified return receipt to the collection agency. That way the delivery and the return receipt move faster.

My last bit of advice: If legal in the state, your spouse/parents should record the calls to gather evidence of the illegal conduct of CI.
