Collection Agency Re-Aging Debt
Date: Wed, 09/23/2009 - 22:24
I had a charge off around May of 2004 and right after that a collection agency bought the debt and started sending me letters and calling me. I never responded once to their offers or correspondence. I was checking my credit report and i see that the collection agency has listed the charge off date as of 2007. Is that legal? If it isn't what are my options? I live in California.
Thanks

The collection agency has brought the debt on 2007 and thus has it reported in that year.
The SOL will still remain as 7 years from the date of the origin
The SOL will still remain as 7 years from the date of the original creditor's charge-off date. A collector doesn't charge-off. If they have reported it that way, then dispute the entry with the credit bureau(s).
