Back in 2008 I received a collection letter from Allied Interstate, trying to collect on a credit card debt. Now, in 2013 I am receiving letters from a local law firm, tring to collect on this same account. The law firm is claiming to have been "assigned" by the original owner of the acct. (a major credit card co/bank). Do original creditors ever take back accounts ? Something about this is fishy....

the issue isn't whether you paid anything in 2008,but when the last payment was made period.also what state you are in.you are right this is fishy as while accounts are recalled often bottomfeeders also often buy debt that's out of SOL.who is the law firm?alot of bottomfeeders claim to be law firms, but they really aren't.who is the original creditor as well.provide that info and we can help further.

I dont see anything fishy about this. You have a debt that you didnt pay. It was assigned to Allied, it has now been assigned to a law firm. Depending on your state you could be coming near the SOL and the original credit who assigned the account wants you sued.
What state do you live in and who was the original creditor???

Did you pay off the debt in 2008? If yes, then you can send documents to the law firm and state that the debt has been paid off. In case, you didn't pay off the debt, then it can be assigned to the law firm by the original owner of the account.
