Removing Acct. from Credit Reports
Date: Wed, 06/13/2012 - 19:00
I have been making monthly pmts. to a collection agency in TX (Paramount) and my remaining balance is now only approx. $100. I have not requested a settlement and plan on paying the amt. in full.
However, I contacted Paramount and asked if I paid off the bill could they please completely remove the account from the credit reporting agencies - and they refused. They stated they would only notify the agencies as "paid in full" as having it removed would give the appearance the initial debt was not valid or somehow diminish their stature as a collection agency? I couldn't figure out what the heck they were talking about. So, my question is should I refuse to pay the remaining balance unless they remove it completely, or is it just best to pay it off and accept their terms? Thanks.

Pay for deletes just dont happen....it is not accurate reporting
Pay for deletes just dont happen....it is not accurate reporting. Plus there really is no incentive for them to do it for you. And with $100 left they have very little to loose whereas you are left with a tradeline and a debt that could be sued on. So pay your $100 off. Otherwise they debt could end up being sold and you have another CA to deal with.

Thanks, I figured paying it anyway was the likely way to go, but wanted to try. I'm annoyed as I've read other CAs will wipe it clean, and I didn't request a settlement. Can't understand the CAs logic, but guess I shouldn't expect them to make sense.
