Hey Guys,
I just saw something on my credit report from "Rent Debt Inc." for $58, and I think it may be from my most recent apartment I moved out of a year ago, but I was never contacted about paying this. Problem is that I am planning to apply for a new apt. in a week and want to know if any of you know how that would affect me getting approved.

My boyfriend and roommate are also applying for the apartment with me, so would that make a difference?

Also, if I just send them a check for the $58 and tell them I sent it, do you think they'd remove the debt from my credit report by next week?

thanks!

The rent company might have tried to contact you for paying the debt in the last one year. Now that you have this item reported in your credit report, contact them and ask for the address where to send the payment. Once the account is cleared off, get the PIF in writing and they will also update the latest status with the bureaus. Do not let this unpaid account hurt your credit for long.

Co-signors get affected while shopping for new credit. It's because they signed the contract jointly. If one fails to make the payment, the person who signed jointly will be held responsible.

I am not sure if this small debt amount can be a big reason for the denial of apartment. You have to convince the party with other good things in your credit report.
