My question is how long do credit card companies usually hold on to account information on charged off accounts? I have a couple of charge offs on my credit report back in late 2007 and early 2008. They havent been updated since then and I was wondering if I filed a dispute with credit reporting agency if there is a chance they could get removed.

Credit card debt are huge sleeping bears. You start poking at it....it will wake up and bite you. bad. All a charge off is is the company wiping the account clean on the books, they took it as a loss. They still own the debt, especially if they are still accurately reporting and updating the accounts on your credit report.

I would leave them alone while they are leaving you alone. If you want to start disputing them, wait until they are past the SOL so you won't get sued over it. I mean, unless they are not your accounts or are grossly misreporting, disputing them will get you nothing good.

Charge-off remain on the credit reports for 7 years. If you have not paid or settled them off, then it would continue to stay on your credit report. If you have settled or paid then off, then the account status will not be updated as "Settled" or "Paid" charge-off. The listing will only be deleted if you negotiate for "Pay For Delete" settlement agreement with your creditors.
