One guy told her he was going to have her arrested. I told her if he called her back and threatened that to tell him "Good I will be waiting I need a vacation." The statute of limitations in my state is 4 years and at the end of this month is 4 years.
I think they are a junk debt buyer and the only thing she has is their fax number. I am going to fax them a cease and desist letter. They don't even have her new address as she has moved since then, all they have is her cell phone number.

I think that's a good idea to fax them a cease and desist and make sure you keep the confirmation number. I just googled them and didn't find anything concrete. It still amazes me, even after all I hear, that they will still stoop to making threats of arresting someone. It's too bad your mother wasn't able to record them. Then she could file suit against them.

I know I have advised her what to say to them if and when they call her back which I am sure they will. I have learned alot on this board. I am glad that I found this place.

Me too. I never would have had the courage to stand up to the pdls and thought it was hopeless for me to do anything to make my credit better. I have gotten some good advice here and appreciate every single bit of it. :-)

I took out a Visa card with First Premier Bank I failed to read all the charges. First they state you have a 300 dollar line of credit then they charge 150 for the annual fee then another 80 dollars for office fees etc. Also if you want to have your account on-line there is a 6.50 fee for that if you do any on-line bill pay there is another charge for that..my total available credit was less than 70 dollars. I used it twice to purchase gas and then to buy a birthday gift. Now I owe them 300 plus dollars and they call twice a day. I have successfully turned all my accounts over to a debt relief group and have given each bill collector that calls a number for them to call not one has called me except First Premier and they call twice a day and keep insisting I call my debt conselor and urge them to contact First Premier Bank. I have received a lot of help from this site and I am doing quite well...however these people trying to get money for nothing it's really irritating. Lesson learned..read eveything well when it comes to credit cards and also ask questions about fees.

Ladybug- couldn't find out anything on a credit card with Global Finance. The only thing I found so far is a ipdl named Global Finance(GFSIL). If her card was stolen, there should be papers with them or someone that has a fraud alert- you want to make sure someone didn't find it, and charge like crazy!!..KAren
My wife????????s credit is a mess and one of the items
My wife????????s credit is a mess and one of the items on there is from these jokers. She was in the same boat with a 300 limit with all the junk fees. She used the card once for $70 which put her at the limit and now they are trying to collect $600 or so. I took a few phone calls from them and offered to settle for $100 but they would not accept it. I told the woman that called that there was no way in hell that she would get $600 from me when my wife only actually borrowed $70. The last phone call I received from them about 6 months ago and I told her either take the $100 as PIF or sue. She turned down the settlement and I have heard nothing from them since. If I get a call again I am going to hit them with a cease and desist letter and a debt validation letter.

Well I called my debt counselor and he said they had sent First Premier a letter to accept their offer and also a check for 20 dollars. That was on October 1st..I imagine that this bank has alot of people working on collecting and very few working on settlements. I don't see how they can even be classified as a bank..they do not loan a thing and try to swindle as much out of a person as possible.
In my wife????????s case I doubt it ever goes anywhere
In my wife????????s case I doubt it ever goes anywhere. I know they will not sue and I am pretty sure they won????????t ever settle. It????????s basically a stale mate. Her credit is wrecked anyway so they can not make it any worse. My credit is decent so when we bought a house last 2 years ago I only applied and we did the same for a car loan. I received the standard rates on both.

It always helps to have a mate when you get into financial trouble. Mine started when my husband died four years ago. He was our main source of income...I learned a hard lesson at that time...you need to have enough insurance to cover major expenses. My husbands was minamal and that created problems for me..it lead to bankruptcy and I lost alot. Now I am trying to get my credit back in good standing. I've had some falls in between but things are looking better now.
This website has a lot good advice and good people.

We are glad you ar here Laura! I am sorry to hear about your husband. You gave excellent advice- be prepared for the future! I worry because my husband doesn't have enough insurance at his job. At this point we cannot afford extra, but I am working at getting this one last debt paid off, so we can look into more! Thanks for the reminder! karen :D

I actually have a meeting set up tomorrow with my home and auto insurance agent to discuss a new term life policy for myself. I am looking at a 10year policy for 500,000 that costs $210/year and a 20year that cost $350/year. I am probably going with the 10year and I should be signed up tomorrow afternoon. Term is the only way to go. It is so cheap compared to many of the other types of life insurance.

Wow u must be young dollars!!! Also, Bossy hate to be discouraging but as we get older it is SO hard to get any kind of decent policy!!! It's not fair! Last time we looked for hubby they wanted $75/month on a $10,000 policy! Didn't make much sense but of course he has pre-existing so no one will touch him!
:(

I am 33 and a non smoker so I am sure that helps. They wanted 350/year for 20year term but I am leaning toward the 10year for the 210/year. The company that my agent quoted is called "West Coast Life" if that helps. I do not know anything about them other than my agent quoted them. He is an independent that quotes a few companies including AAA/Travlers which is my home and auto.
Also you really do not need life insurance on kids other than maybe for funeral costs in my opinion. I would recomend you take that money and get life insurance on their parents or deposit it in a college fund. The purpose of life insurance is to replace the income of someone upon death so you can still function. A child cost money and does not produce it so in the harshes sense you actually save money if one passes away other than the funeral costs. Also, if you deposit $30/month or $3,000 one time investment for 20 years at 12% interest (average rate of return on a growth stock mutual fund) then your ending balance will be $27,000. You might consider an educational savings account. They are better tax wise but the child gets full control at 18.

Yes i understand that Dollars... The policy i have on the kids (including all of my own) is one that can be cashed out at 18... i'll have to read it to get the details. After my hubby getting sick at such a young age we decided to buy all the kids an insurance policy! And thanks goodness we did cuz my oldest daughter had cancer at 17 and my son has a heart defect so neither can get any kind of life insurance now.... Things happen for a reason i guess.

How long is the term on their policies? You might have a whole life policy or a Universal policy but I wouldn't think you could get one of those as cheap as you did. I did not realize you could cash out a term life policy. I will have to ask my agent about that.

Ok so i just pulled my paperwork on these policies. They are whole life policy's and the amount for now is 20,000 at age 21 they go up to 40,000 and at 28 goes to 200,000 for $15 a month each, have 2 policies for each girl. The plans accumulates cash value and after 20 years the cash value is the amount of premium paid or more...
Hope that helps some, insurance sure can be confusing!
Whew!

First Premier credit card is the credit card to use if you are trying to establish credit again but you will definately pay for it in fee's.
It is always extremely important to read contracts before you agree to them. It never fails to baffle me when an account comes to where I work and the've had the card for 20+_ years and are upset about late interest fee's. Most CC agencies send out a yearly card holder agreement.

The only thing I dislike about First Premier (other than the fee's) is that if you pay online you don't have the avaliable credit for like a week!
