I was reviewing the three letters sent to me by a lawyer,it was from his office, his letterhead but not signed by him. I looked up the person who signed it to see if he is registered and he is not.

Under his name are:

dcl= I come up with Doctor in Civil Law, so is he a lawyer?

DEM=Deus Ex Machina is the only thing I come up with on abbreviations.com

What does deus ex machina mean?
(literally "god out of a machine") describes an artificial, or improbable, character, device, or event introduced suddenly in a work of fiction or drama to resolve a situation or untangle a plot (such as an angel suddenly appearing to solve problems).

So a fictitious person is threatening to sue me...
Am I right on this and do you think I have a good defense?

Could someone be able to tell me if it would fall under both the fdcpa and my state or only one?

So I do have the dues ex machina right........The name was bothering me though.......I did a search and came up with this from IMDB.com

WAKING THE DEAD is a TV series and was on BBC
from 2000 to present.

Not a major actor, I don't think, Simon Cook plays Anthony Lane-Kelly (2 episodes, 2007) BUT!!!!
Season 6, Episode 3: Deus Ex Machina: Part 1
Original Air Date: 14 January 2007

Season 6, Episode 4: Deus Ex Machina: Part 2
Original Air Date: 15 January 2007

How would this stand up in court? How do I find out if this law firm has someone named Anthony Lane working for him, it has on his website he has equipment to get blocked phone numbers.

Nope I watched a clip on BBC wikipedia has a link to waking the dead and to BBC's site.

I found out that DCL stands for Doctor Civil Law or also Doctor Canon Law. This is not a degree in the U.S. but it is a degree from Oxford College in Oxford England.

Funny how every bit of information I have has to do with england or the UK generally.

yes they said he wasn't there. 3 times. That is when who I believe was the attorney and he said he is filing suit. He said he had my SS# so that is proof the debt is mine. He volunteered the last payment made and I asked how, he said it doesn't say but when he gets my information, he will notify me.

I called today and they said he is on vacation. They said that they are probably the initials of whoever wrote up the letter. I asked her who's they where and she said she didn't know.

She said DEM could stand for DEMAND.

Even still, Anthony Lane is not an attorney and his signature is on an attorney letterhead, It also states the communication is from a debt collector in the mini-miranda.

This would leave me to believe that this is a mass mailing such as the case of Nielsen VS Dickerson.

OK I may have to find an attorney through the NACA. I did a search of the paralegals name and he has it listed under attorneys on a number of sites. It sounds like he is running an illegal business under the law firm. The guys name is Alex N. Abdow. I really don't know what he is trying to pull but something sounds fishy.
