I noticed on my credit report that under the OC account, "recent payments" shows the amount paid $XX but no date of payment!

I did not make any payment on this account. Is it possible that the CA made a payment trying to revive the account? I'm sending a letter to the CRA disputing this recent payment, is this the right move on my part??

Thanks!

I would send a certified letter to the collection agency first--a debt validation request. Send them that, and make no mention of that payment in the letter, let them do what they are going to do. Now, about two weeks after you get the green receipt card back from them, contact the credit bureau and dispute the debt on your credit report. The CB will notify the collection agency and give them 30 days to verify the debt as being yours. here's where you get them--they cannot legally take any collection activity, which includes updating your credit report to show the debt is valid, until after they respond to your DV request! So, the only legal thing they can do at that point is remove it from your credit report. Most of the time they wont, however, but at that point youve got them violating federal law.

Great, thanks! I'm sending the second DV letter to the CA today anyway!

So, do no send a dispute letter to the Credit bureau regarding that recent payment made to the original creditor account?
