RJM at it again

Well I go to the mailbox and low and behold, a collection letter from RJM for a fingerhut account. I about pitched a fit...I JUST got this account last month, I haven't even gotten my first statement! I got this account to buy some new kitchen stuff I needed and get to start rebuilding credit..win-win. Until I get this letter.
SO I call RJM very hot under the collar and demand to know what is going on (this is before I call fingerhut)
They go through the typical speel..is your name XXXXX..is the last four of your social XXXX...yes? Then this is your debt....at which point I ask them how can I be in collections on a new account in good standing.....
That is when he tells me the account originated in 1989!!!!
So I finally realize what is going on...my account is fine and curiously enough this is the first time I have ever had fingerhut so I have no idea what the heck is going on....on the back of the letter it says a..get this...a pillow was purchased...and now I owe 116 bucks! FOR A PILLOW???? That is some pillow.
I told them they got their information crossed that the addy they gave me I have never lived at...at first he started to spout the typical rhetoric...until he said the magic words, "This could effect your credit"...and I promptly responded with, "a 20 year old account is going to impact my credit when ALL collection accounts can only be reported for 7 and a half years???? You realize that violates the FDCPA and FCRA not to mention texas statues....you can't even sue on this account it is so old."
I then told them to take a flying leap. I send them a total C&D and told them to go take a flying leap.
What I find odd is that this old fingerhut account pops up a month after I opened a fingerhut account and I have not had one before this! I have never heard about this 20+ year old account before until now...very strange.:rolleyes:

Yep. You have done the right thing by sending them a cease and desist letter. These are one of the scare tactics of the collection agencies to make money out of consumers.
