I am being sued by Worldwide Asset and Purchasing, LLC. Their attorney is Law Office of Rory Clark in West lake Village,CA. I do not even know what this debt is for and do not think it is legitimate. Anyhow I will file an answer in court within 30 days. However, I am unsure what happens after that. Can I contact Rory Clark and ask him to drop the suit because its not a legitimate suit? If there is any lawyers out there or if you have been through this before can you be kind enough to let me know happens after I file an answer with the courts? When exactly does discovery start? I really want to hire an atty but don't think I can afford the costs.

Has anyone else been sued by these people? Are they likely to drop the suit if I file an answer?

Thank you. I appreciate any help I can get so I can fight this. I think this site is awesome.

I would seriously advise you not to handle this matter yourself. Consult with an attorney who handles consumer credit issues. Your local county bar association will be able to refer an attorney to you.

Have you disputed the validity of the debt with Mr. Clark, under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act? If not, you should do so. Write, "I dispute the validity of this debt. Please provide me with verification."

You were just served yesterday? Check with the county clerk to be sure that it is a real summons from the court, if it is, make sure that you show up for the court date or a judgement will be granted to the CA/Atty. Ask for validation during discovery, if it can't be provided the case will be dismissed.

I received a court form stating CASE MANAGEMENT STATEMENT. Doesn't look like a summons. I really need to join a group to sue this firm.

A good considerate lawyer would not charge you more than 500 dollars. Offer to pick up the documents from court yourself, this will save you a lot of money. A lawyer will charge you for the hour. Trust me. I've been down this road, and I did not mind standing in line in the file room to get documents here and there. The rest is piece of cake. In most cases you need a lawyer to scare the shit out this people. Not sure if this advice is to late, but whoever read this, and needs this advice, take it.

Rory clark is skum. i was held liable for a 14,000 debt. i paid him back over 18k and now he is suing me for back interest for another 9,000.00. my boss suggested i hire an attorney because how will anyone know this won't go on and on until i am flat broke. i am seeking an attorney as this rory clark will not even negotiate with me. i hope all will keep me posted with their results. as a matter of fact, he originally servied me with an illigal subpoena from the start. i tend to nail this guy, whatever it takes and i hope others will too.
