I was so upset from their phone calls - to my children, to my elderly mother, even to my son-in-law's parents - that I stupidly gave them a down payment and set up a payment plan. It seemed so legit - they knew my SS#, my work, my address, my mortgage company, etc. Now that I have paid them - is there anything I can do to stop it? and if a close the account, won't they start the harrassing phone calls again? HELP!!!

Hi,

You say that you had set up a payment plan with Ruben and Yates. So, can you tell whether or not you get any written agreement on this payment plan? Do you have the payment receipts? Can I know if you had tried to validate this debt? You will not be able to get any details about this so called law firm from the Internet. They area scam company. For more details on Ruben and Yates refer http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/collection-agencies/rubenandyates.html .

Thanks

Did you have them validate the debt? Dont ever just take a phone call from a collectors word for it, there are alot of scam companies out there. Yes you can close the account if you have given them any banking info. They will empty out your accounts once they have acccess to it. Immediately close the account and send them a DV letter by CMRRR, and include that all correspondence is to be done in writing by USPS ONLY. Include that ALL calls to other parties are to stop NOW. Once they have spoken to you, it is illegal for them to call any one else. Make them prove by federal law that they own the account, it is your right by law to ask for validation, dont let them tell you different.
