2 CAs for 1 debt

Okay I have a phone bill from last year, the phone company listed it on my CR about 3 months ago, now it has been sold to a new agency and I want to know BEFORE it happens can both CA list the same debt? Also I am making monthly payments to thephone company on this bill, how can TWO CA have this account now if I am dealing directly with the phone company. I mail the payment and they cash the check. Thanks

Send the collection agency a letter telling them that you owe the money to the phone company and will only deal with them directly. Tell them you have been making regular payments so the collection agencies records can't possibly be accurate. Ask them to validate the debt including any payments you have made prior to them aquiring it. I guarantee you that they will give it back to the phone company.
