I'm thinking I might go the dmp route with Take Charge America...my question is are you shut out entirely from getting credit during the plan? I'm not in any sort of rush to get credit or anything, but the plan calls for about 4 years and I would think during that time I might want an auto loan or get a secured card to build credit

No offense but you shouldn't be having any type of credit cards beyond a car or a home if you are going to sign with a dmp and even then I would advise against it.

The idea is not to build more debt for yourself so that you can get out of it. You still have to make payments even on a secured credit card, you are still charged interest and late fee's. It doesn't work like a gift card.

Rebuilt your credit when your finances aren't so strapped that you need a DMP.
