Getting weird calls wanting me to call back so they can keep me updated on what is going on.. (??)

Haven't had a shred of paperwork at all from them, so I am ignoring them.

Has anyone here had any dalings with this group?

I have, actually. They are based out of California and they are FAKE! The B.B.B. has given them an "F" rating. They call about legitimate debts that they somehow manage to get ahold of. If you do call them back, you will first get a nice man, then a horrible man who'll make you cry, then a mediocre almost cruel but mostly indifferent man. Don't fall for their crap and do not under any circumstances give them bank information! They are FAKE!

These guys have a lot of complaints. I checked the Federal Pacer system for FDCPA and they get sued a lot. This firm seems to have good results krohnandmoss.com (the problem with this is that fdcpa is not up on our main site ??? get it up there)

Well, they are not exactly *fake*. And they've been sued 4 times for FDCPA violations ("http://dockets.justia.com/search?query=LAW+OFFICE+OF+SYDNEY+MICKELL" - "http://dockets.justia.com/search?query=LAW+OFFICE+OF+SIDNEY+MICKELL" returns 2) - and Justia gets its info from PACER. He's been on the California Bar since 1985 and there are no disciplines or administrative actions against him.

But there are a ton of people posting complaints about them on websites. Look, nothing is ever going to be done about these people violating the law until their victims (alleged debtors) take them to court or file complaints properly - with the FTC, the FCC, and the State Attorney general.

This is why they do these things, they can get away with it, because no one calls them on it. They just pay and grumble at the wall...

If they are violating the law, CHARGE them with it.

This man is an out and out liar. He called our house pretending to be collecting from another company all to gether. He misrepresented himself to us by saying he was trying to collect for Sears via Citi Bank. I had made an offer to Sears and they refused. 2 - 3 days later Mr. Mickell called and talked to my husband saying his customer would now accept the offer we made. My husband gave him our account info and he took the $800.00 dollarsout. 3 months later I find out that he was not collecting for Sears but for Capitol one. A debt that had been paid off 8 years prior. Now I owe Sears 3 times the original amount.

Do not believe him!!! Do Not give him any information. He phishes, gets some info and then lies to get money. This is fraud! Check with your state before giving him or any one any of your information. There is a statute of limitations on collecting debts and if it has run out you do not owe!!!. He totally screwed us!!

If you have proof that the capital one account was paid then you can sue him to get your money back, and them some for the fraud. Even if you don't have anything anymore, you can likely contact capital one and get a status of your account and a letter stating the account is paid. You should go after this scum and take him for as much as you can. You need to also file complaints with ever agency you can think of.

They have been deducting our account once a month for a year for carpet we had installed by Empire. Now that the year is up they are calling and leaving messages again. Does anyone know if Empire is a company that turns accounts over to them for collection? I am wondering if we have been taken for a ride!!!

I have also received calls from that "Firm". A man left a message on my voicemail and was very casual, almost as if we were friends..."hey, this is Ricky. I really need you to contact me as soon as possible...". My mother called me the next day and told me that a Rickey had called her house looking for me as well. Note that I haven't lived at home in over 10 years and no longer use my parents address or phone number on any of my personal accounts.

I have conducted a search and they seem to be fraudulent. While they had all my account information, including my new home address and phone number, they seem to use scare tactics and continue to stress that this is a mediation step before the attorney takes me to court. I thought the call was strange also because I have been in the process of settling the debt with another debt collection agency that was legitimate (the company where the debt originated confirmed this). Ricky also wanted to settle my $1,400 debt with $800 on the spot via my checking account. I requested a notice in writing so that I could double check the firm's information and cross check with the company my debt originated from and they cooperated. I'm still in the process of confirming all of the information (this is taking a long time), but in the meantime I sent the firm a certified letter with a "Do no contact" request, backed with some information from the FDCPA. I strongly suggest that you do so if they continue to call you while you are getting everything straightened out.

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER UNTIL YOU HAVE VERIFIED EVERYTHING THROUGH THE COMPANY WHERE YOUR DEBT ORIGINATED FROM. BE VERY CAREFUL!

Aren't debt collectors supposed to inform you of that when they call?

"...This is Ian Wilson of Attorney Sydney Mickell's office" called my number this morning. He left his name and said "I've been advised to let you know what's going on here at the office."

I kept his message. Let him sue me.

My mom got a call a while back about being sued, but nothing came or filed with the courthouse.
then I got another call on my cell from Rick or Ricky? He told me that I was sued! asked them to send me some information and it obviously was not going to be was. they just kept pushing for money, and getting aggressive! And that was the manager !!!
It sounds like a scam
SOME FAKE ATTORNEY... it doesn't even have any info on him on the net?
I looked up this company and it seems to be a Bottom feeder COLLECTION AGENCY
DONT GIVE ANY MONEY TO THIS COMPANY
IF YOU GO TO COURT THE JUDGE WILL MAKE THEM NEGOTIATE WHAT EVER YOU OFFER THEM!
AND IF YOU GAVE THEM MONEY JUST CALL YOUR BANK or CREDIT CARD COMPANY AND CHARGE IT BACK ON TO YOUR CARD ITS EASY !

LOL, they thought they had me , they have been calling and leaving messages for a month now so yesterday I finally aswered the phone (because I had looked all over the net and found nothing reputable about this "law firm" .
When I answered, they seemed to know an awful lot about me, including my address, past jobs, and a debt I owe to aspire visa, a credit card in which I offered 40.00 payments on a 2,000. balance when I lost my job lasy Sept and Aspire refused and told me they could not accept any payment lower then 65.00 a month so I stoped paying them in Nov when they cut off my access to my account online. Anyway they said that Aspire sent my account to them and if I wanted 40.00/month payments I would have to pay them atleast 500.00 down, I told the guy there is NO WAY, how the hell can I pay you 500.00 today? if I had that then I'd agree to pay aspire what thet were asking for so then he told me ..well you can settle this debt for 1200.00... I was like , Dude, IF I HAD THAT KIND OF EXTRA MONEY LAYING AROUND, I WOULD'NT HAVE THIS DEBT...DUH I told him I was NOT giving him any bank info or payments by phone because I did not know who he really was, wether it was really about my aspire account and that everything online about them was negative... he got very very UGLY (this was supposedly the "manager" and said to me
Well how important is this debt to you? I said well honestly if you were willing to work payment arangements with me and I could pay my account either online or sending it somewhere I could verify as being legit, I would do it but you are telling me you can't help me so I guess you can just place it on my credit and it will be gone in 7-10 years.. he got pissed and said so this is what your telling me and I will note it to the attorney that you could care less about your debts owed and, you would rather feed your faimly then pay off your debt? I been doing this for 10 years and I hear people's wa wa excuses everyday and you do not make me feel sorry for you just because you cry "I can't help you? well you will be sued so "bye bye".. and he hung up on me,,, how professional is that? give me a break. I ain't falling for this crap either
my question is
this card is ONLY in my name, not my husbands....so this debt is mine..how the heck can he say he can go after my husband for it?
my husband is military and we pay his accounts so he does not lose his clearence but this one account is only mine, can it really affect him?

People you need to document everything that is said and record the conversation! If they are misrepresenting who they are that is FRAUD! Abusive language, threats of legal actions, etc, etc, and etc...you can file a complaint against Syndey Mickell and his staff with the State Bar of California. The only way to get him is to get his BAR CARD removed...forget those other agencies!!!

You are so full of it. You are probably a sorry rep from the company. I find it impossible that with all of their complaints, you happen to have had a great experience. Blow it out of your butt Loser, and you will not get a dime from me. Sorry

These guys called me, and were very rude and used scare tacticks including threating to take me to court, put me in jail, and garnish my wages. I ALMOST gave them my card number to settle the debt but right before I did I googled them. I found THOUSANDS of people complaining about what a**holes they were and that it was a scam, and they took more money then agreed, they never reported the debt as paid ect. ect. When I told the man what I had found and told him I would not be giving my account number to him anymore, he FLIPPED! He then called my BOSSES PERSONAL CELL PHONE and asked her for my work mailing agress because he was going to garnish my wages because of my debt (both parts illegal, and illegal to tell anyone besides my spouce why there calling, and no need to call them if he has my number!) Called my BOSSES SISTER'S PERSONAL CELL PHONE and told her the same load of crap, and asked them both for their other siblings number (who lives out of the country) Dont even SPEAK to these a-holes. DO NOT give them a dime, or access to your account. And RECORD ALL of your dealings with them. Make them verify the debt.
