Guest, here is some information on pdl laws in New Jersy. This may help you deal with SHW.

Use the information in this thread to file a complaint against One Step for the overpayments in the past.

I recently had issues with SHW ( and I had one step cash) and I sent a request for debt validation and so far (fingers and toes crossed) have not heard from them again. You may want to state that pdls are prohibited in your state as well as the fact that you have filed a complaint against One Step for violating your state ursury laws and you will be forwarding a copy of this to your state regulating agency to include with your complaint. You also need to check and see if SHW is even licensed to collect in your state. If not, include that too.

I don't much about one step cash either, but I can tell you that PDLs are prohibited in New Jersey. You owe them nothing but what they put in your account. Close your bank account, get a C and D letter out to them and file those complaints with the AG, the BBB, and the FTC. When they call the next time, ask them when they are coming to get you so you can be ready for your overnight stay at the local police station! Please don't let these guys scare you. They can't do a thing. If people could go to jail for nonpayment of a debt, half the country would now be incarcerated. Get that C and D letter out ASAP. If you have an email address send it that way first. Then send a hard copy.

Here are the state laws for New Jersey (just select your state),

http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/explain-pdls-laws.html

I dealt with onestepcash many years ago and they are illegal. They don't follow the laws for any state and I don't believe that are even licensed.

You should send a debt validation letter to Smith Haynes and Watson. Also file a complaint with your States Attorney General in regards to the tactics they are using and also against onestepcash.

I just checked and I could not find them listed. It is not that big of a mess. It is just going to take a little work to clear up. Do send the request for debt validation and do file with the agencies mentioned. I faxed mine and followed with a the letter certified mail, return receipt. If you have any questions or just need support we will be here.
