Question:

I have been unemployed for also four years, not because I do not want to work, but because I cannot find a job. I have a BA in Education, my MS in Social & Community Services and pursuing my PhD. I decided to gain more education in the 4 years I was unemployed.

I was unable and still is unable to pay my bills, my house is in foreclosure and I am stressed. I received a letter from the Sheriff Office in my city from Asset talking about garnishing my wages which I do not have. My concern is I have a bank account joint with my ex-husband who lives in FL and is employed and I live in GA and the bank account is in FL. Can they garnish the bank account? Its not my money and only my husband's salary is deposited into the account. We still have this account joint because of immigration purposes until he becomes a citizen next year. What is my status with this issue?

Concerned.....

Yup, they can garnish this account.

I just became a citizen last month...they didnt even ask about bank accounts or finances. He needs to open another account to put his money in.
