Can anyone tell me what company this is number belongs to? 1-800-955-6600 I would like to contact them and ask them to stop calling my house in writing. Apparently they are debt collectors of some type and believe they're successfully harassing the person which owes them $. However I owe NO ONE money and I have no idea who they are and I'm only guessing as to why they're calling my home several times a day. They just hang up anyways so it's not like I can have a rational conversation w/them when they call to get to the bottom of this. If you call that number back it just rings and eventually disconnects you. So apparently they're goal isn't to communicate w/the person they're calling. ANY help would be appreciated ty!

I'm just curious about your phone number by chance did you just get this from the telephone company? I got a new phone number about a month ago and it seems that the gal that had this number owes the world. I know exactly what you are going through. I called the phone company and they said they will change it if it continues.

In the meantime, I get number and get the address if I can and send a cease and desist letter stating that the phone number they are calling is not the party they are trying to reach and that they are to cease immediately.

When you call your number back it just may be a computer generated number for an auto dialer.

How annoying this can be. Hang in we'll all figure something out.

Hi Serenity - welcome to the site! :-) We're glad you're here.

I dialed the number you mentioned - it goes directly to Capital One, which is a credit card issuing company located in Virginia. Do you have a Capital One card? If not, it's likely that the phone calls are a telemarketing call in an attempt to offer you one. This company is relentless in their marketing attempts - they will send you multiple mailings every month, or call you several times in an attempt to get you to take out one of their (numerous) cards.

If you no longer wish to receive calls, place your phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry at www.donotcall.gov - that will take a few weeks to actually take effect, but it blocks almost all telemarketing calls. If you receive any telemarketing calls after you are on the list, answer the call, and tell them you are on the Do Not Call list, and they have to remove you from their calling list.

One important step that needs to be taken to limit telemarketing calls after you are on the do not call list. You will need to opt-out of marketing with the credit bureaus and each individual creditor you have.I did this and my wife is now undisturbed by these types of calls.Another advantage is the huge reduction in junk mail.

Ya know, I ahve called that 'Do-Not-Call' # several times, and I keep getting calls. Shouldn't the calls cease, as soon as I call it?

As far as I know, in-house collection agencies are not usually covered under the fdcpa. For instance if you have a credit card of a departmental store and you have defaulted on your payments and if the store's own collection division contacts you to collect the money then the FDCPA does not come into picture. However if the same store hires an outside collection agency to collect the amount from you, then the collection agency's conduct is controlled by the FDCPA. The FDCPA may also apply when the same store employs its in-house collection agent, but represents as if the collection is done by a third party agency.

Take care :)
Nelly

I have recently learned that allied interstate (one of the worst collection agencies out there) is part of Capital One. I wouldn't answer any calls from these people. If Capital One is with this malicious, nasty, and just plain WRONG company, who knows what they will do?

This letter is from Patricia D. Foster.

We would like you to stop the phone calls forthwith.

You are directed to cease and desist the harassing telephone calls immediately!

If you do not, Mr. Ronald S. Foster will begin legal action for undue harassment for calls all hours of the day and evening. We are keeping a log from this point on for documentation to present to the court.

Cease at once!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Patricia Foster

Patricia Foster and Ronald Foster, whoever you are trying to make stop calling you, posting your letter here will not help.

You need to send it directly to whoever is calling you.

This is a website that helps people deal with idiot collection agencies like that; however, we are not calling you and posting you letter here is worse than useless.

Good idea, though, in keeping a log of how many times they do call you and documenting it, now you just need to get your cease and desist letter to the right collection agency. If you tell us the name, we might be able to help.

On a side note, how do people read this site and think we are affiliated with collection agencies? Then they post on here thinking they are posting to the CA?

I've never been able to figure that out.
