stop payment on check

2 years ago i wrote a check that i stopped payment on. told the car dealership i did not have all the money they wanted for downpayment. they said pay half now half later on pre-dated check..I stopped payment on pre-dated check because I didnt have the money like i told them.
Now chase assests and recovery (c.a.r.& associates) are demanding payment for this check of 162.00. we set payments up and I decided that i was going directly to the car dealship and pay. when they just called to see if i sent a payment to them was told that united transaction paid for the check. called them and they said they are not handling it now that c.a.r. associates are.
what is the deal here??? anyone know? Please I am on disabilty and need answers.

You dont owe the car
You dont owe the car dealership the money....they sold or transfered the acccount to CAR associates. You need to pay the correct party as you have been instructed.
