How do I respond to a summons, they want me to respond in 30 days or a judgment will be filed against me Please help

You just need to show up in court on the specified day. If you don't you will lose by default. You can request a postponement from the court if you need more time to prepare or seek counsel. It is best to have an attorney unless you are very good at defending yourself against all the legal tricks.

We had a summons given to us by some man in a beat up car!! You need torespond within the time they give you or a default judgement will be filed, which means that you don't contest it, or it wasn't answered.

There usually are quesiotns for you to answer on it. Like was previously mentioned, check with your court clerks office to make sure this is the real thing.

Who is the company that is doing this?..karen

You can use the search feature at the top of the page to search for Atlantic, I found nothing on Cohn. Is it possible that it is Phillips and Cohen? I also read another post of yours with more details.

IF this is your fathers debt, he will have to answer and appear, unless you have power of attorney. Check with the courts, your state may have a provision if someone cannot appear, and someone can stand in for them, I am not aware of any.

Did you check to make sure this is a valid suit?

I have to get off now, but hopefully someone will be along with more knowledge and help..karen--

BTW--Welcome to the Community :D
