I received some calls from a company called united legal group or something like that. The man stated that they were attempting to serve me a summons due to a payday loan that was never paid back in 2008. They are threatening to take me to court over a $600.00 payday loan. I stated to the man that I wanted proof of what is owed either by email or by mail before i make a settlement payment. He claims he cannot send me an email because they are not a collection agency. What are my rights?? Do you think they will really take me to court on attempting to defraud the company if i dont settle??

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!

Tricky situation. Do you really owe any money to this company? Are pdls legal in your state? Does this company have license to operate in your state? If you really owe money to this company and pdl/the company is not legal in your state, then you only need to pay the principal amount. However, If the company has the license to operate in your state or pdls are legal in your state, then you have to settle the debt provided you owe it. You can check your credit report and find out whether the company is listed on it. If you really owe money to them and they are legal in your state, then they can sue you for non-repayment of debts.

united legal,or any portion thereof is a scam as "defrauding a financial institution" is a crime. owing a pdl legal or not isn't a crime.just threatening that they broke the law.file a police report and ignore them as again a total scam.btw most likely the loan was internet and therefore illegal so file the police report and just know that this scam broke the law hand over fist with their call/calls.they can't,and won't do anything but call and illegaly threaten.

A good rule of thumb is that 99.99999999999% of the time, when someone calls you and tells you that, if you don't pay me right now, I will send someone to your home/job to serve you with a summons at 3:00 tomorrow, it's a scam. If they refuse to send you something in writing, they are NOT LEGITIMATE! The next time they call tell them that they can either send you something in writing or they should just stop calling because they won't be getting any money from you.
