Texas: Summary of collection policys
Date: Thu, 05/22/2008 - 09:48
Im just making sure i have a full understanding of how CAs work in texas so im trying to compile a list so I know I have all my ducks in a row. if I am wrong or misinterpreted something please let me know:
Texas is a non garnishment state
Texas is a homestead state (creditors cannot get a lien against a house)
CAs MUST validate a debt within 30 days or the debt is considered invalid and can no longer be collected. (from what I understand Texas is one of the few states that actually imposes a time limit on the DV from the CA)
SOL is 4 years
Creditors must be licensed to collect in Texas
Anything I missed?
