Owe a loan we didn't take?

We received a letter from RECONTRUST Co. (BofA) re a foreclosure on a house owned by our mother. For a short time, our names (Thomas and Sharon) were on the DEED, but never on the loan. The mother took out the mortgage loan with B of A. Now, its in foreclosure and the above company is coming after us also. Can we be held liable even though we didn't have a loan with them?
