I got a weird call at my work from what I believe was a Collection Agency. The person had a very strong accent the only thing I got was "collection" an "social security", what could that be?, I am freaking out, they have not call back, but I would like to know what could it be. I am about a year behind in my cc payments.
Thanks a lot for your advise.
The collection agency may have called you regarding the credit c
The collection agency may have called you regarding the credit card debt. But this does not mean that they can make collection attempts on your Social Security benefits.
Under the FDCPA laws, collection agency are not allowed to call
Under the FDCPA laws, collection agency are not allowed to call you at your work place unless your company policy allow it. So, you need to check this matter. If your company policy allows it, then collection agency can call you at your work place. Otherwise, if they call you back again, then you can file a complaint against them because of FDCPA laws violation to the State Attorney General or FTC. You need not to worry regarding ???Social Security Benefit???. This is because collection agencies are not allowed to collect social security benefit.
Work Calls
You must first notify the CA to not call you at work. Only after that will it be considered a violation. A legal CA will stop and a bottomfeeder will ignore the law and continue.
