O'Brien & Wexler? old payday loan

Hi, all. With the help of the Debt Consolidation Care forums, I broke the payday loan cycle nightmare in March 2009. I was living in a state then that didn't have a lot of rules regarding these loans, especially not the online ones. My husband is chronically ill and work has been sporadic and I was stupid and desperate. I used all of the tools here to close my bank account and send certified letters and reported everything to the proper authorities. And the harrassing calls and emails stopped...until now.
I quit my job last year and moved to a different state earlier this year to go on for my Master's degree. A former colleague emailed me last night to say that she got a message for me from a lawyer's office and she gave me the 877 number, which I Googled and came up with the name of O'Brien and Wexler. They told her that they were going to sue me and gave her a docket number. I knew these tactics had to happen some time. I Googled the firm name and it seems like they collect for payday loan companies.
Is there a list somewhere that I can check to see if they're licensed to collect in the state where I currently live? Should I wait until I get a letter from them? I'm not sure how to proceed and I don't want them to keep harrassing my former employer.
Sorry to be vague about where I live...I know these collectors troll these boards and I don't want to give them any more information. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the fact that they told this third party that they are going to sue you and gave her a docket number is a violation of the FDCPA.
Further, if they haven't actually filed suit, and can't (was this an illegal loan?) that's a further violation of the FDCPA.
Are they actually a law firm or are they debt collectors? Because that could be yet another violation ;)
You should sue THEM!
